Fishing
Situated between one of the last musky lakes in existence and the world’s most productive fresh water lake, Chatham-Kent offers anglers world-class sport and game fishing.
Lake Erie
Located on the eastern shore of Chatham-Kent, Lake Erie is a first-rate fishery for its rare abundance and quality of pickerel, perch and rainbow trout. Considered the top game fish in Canada, walleye is also plentiful in Lake Erie. The lake is accessible from harbours in the scenic fishing villages of Wheatley and Erieau.
Lake St. Clair
Anglers can fish in the warmer, shallower openness of Lake St. Clair on the western shore or choose one of several protected tributaries to cast a line for trophy-size muskie, pickerel, bass or perch. The hamlet of Mitchell’s Bay is known for ice fishing with perch, bluegill and crappie available a few feet from shore.
Fishing communities cater to visitors with convenient services and facilities including full service marinas, accessory stores, restaurants and lodging. Professional charter companies and guide services are also available. Several derbies throughout the season cater to every skill level.
