When you find an apartment, a co-signer, and a reference may be necessary. The co-signer pays the rent, if you cannot pay it every month. The reference is someone the landlord contacts to do a background check.
Make sure to read all rental contracts very carefully. If you are not sure about any of it, visit CLEOnet’s website to learn your rights when renting. Make sure you ask about any hidden costs like parking fees or maintenance costs.
Do you want to live in an apartment with a roommate? Then use the web tool for renters with roommates, provided by Community Legal Education Ontario (CLEO).
CLEO has many publications to help you understand Tenant and Landlord relations, in Canada.
