Parks & Camping

Our community is rich with active and passive parks, green spaces, and conservation areas, to spend a relaxing day outdoors with your loved ones.

Many of these locations are equipped with picnic shelters, washrooms, and playground equipment for children – the perfect combination for an inexpensive day with the family!

Chatham-Kent is home to two Provincial Parks:

Rondeau Provincial Park

Off the shores of Lake Erie, Rondeau Provincial Park has one of Canada’s largest Carolinian forests. With a wide variety of beautiful trees and prairie grass, Rondeau is a recreational hotspot for many nature enthusiasts and campers. It is a must-see for those with a passion for bird watching and offers guided tours. The park is close to Ridgetown and Blenheim. This makes it a favourite for families wanting to spend an afternoon outdoors followed by dinner at one of many restaurants.

The smooth pavement of over 15 km of roadway in the park is ideal for runners and people who like to rollerblade. The numerous hiking trails are a good challenge for cyclists and a pleasure for hikers.

Wheatley Provincial Park

One of the most visited provincial parks in Ontario; Wheatley Provincial Park has lush forests, creeks and is close to Leamington. This makes it a main attraction for nature lovers and Daytrippers. The 596-acre park provides an excellent recreational setting for birders, naturalists and campers. One of the highlights of this provincial park is the astonishing view of many migrating and breeding birds.

Camping

Chatham-Kent’s pleasant southern climate gives our communities an extended camping season. We have beautiful spacious campgrounds that provide access to a large variety of wildlife, clean beaches, and nature trails.

The campgrounds throughout Chatham-Kent, both private and municipal, provide endless hours of recreational and leisure activities for people of all ages.
