Natural Beauty
With its pastoral countryside, rolling rivers, fun-filled lakes and rare Carolinian forests, Chatham-Kent is an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise. Just about every kind of activity is available to you, right outside your door.
Go camping with the family in a tent or trailer at Rondeau and Wheatley Provincial Parks. Grab your binoculars and head to St. Clair National Wildlife Area to see hundreds of species of birds as they migrate through each spring and fall. Pack a lunch, a blanket and a frisbee for a picnic at one of the many nearby conservation areas. Hop on a bicycle and explore the waterfront views of the Talbot Trail.
If water’s your thing, this is the place. Sandwiched between Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair, a day at the beach is only a few minutes’ drive away. Sport fishing is a year-round pastime, with dozens of charter operators and outfitters throughout the area. Sailing, wake-boarding and big open water can offer excitement, or spend a relaxing afternoon drifting along the Sydenham River in the north or the Thames River which runs through the heart of the municipality and the city of Chatham.
Amateur photographers, tourists and local residents cherish the picturesque scenery of Mitchell’s Bay, Lighthouse Cove and Erieau. Whether by foot, bicycle, car, motorcycle, boat or plane (yes, we have an airport), Chatham-Kent’s geographic attractions and natural beauty shine.
