Wallaceburg
Wallaceburg is a community of approximately 11,000, located on the northern border of Chatham-Kent. Along the banks of the scenic Sydenham River which flows directly into the St. Clair River and connects the Great Lakes, the world’s largest fresh water system. It’s only a short drive away from five Canadian/U.S. border crossings, conveniently located between Detroit on the west and Toronto on the east.
Wallaceburg’s unique marina facilities make the town an ideal spot for the fishing, boating and hunting enthusiast. Docking right along the downtown core offers the convenience of shopping and dining all a few steps away.
It exudes the warmth and character associated with small town living. The community is very proud of their neighbouring community Walpole Island – also called Bkejwanong or “Where the waters divide”. It has been home to aboriginal people for over six thousand years.
Wallaceburg is a very active community that supports the needs of both seniors and youth. It has a rich history, which they showcase and celebrate at the Wallaceburg and District Museum. With state-of-the-art trails, waterways and pathways for cyclists and walkers, Wallaceburg promote a healthy active lifestyle. With recreational facilities including an indoor pool, arena, athletic fields, playgrounds, tennis courts, a skateboard park, 18 hole golf course and a live theatre.
Wallaceburg is home to WAMBO (Wallaceburg Antique Motor and Boat Outing), an annual antique car, boat, bus and fire truck show that began in 1988. WAMBO is the largest transportation show in Canada.
The town is surrounded by rich farmland in which a variety of fresh vegetables and grains are harvested from annually. It’s abundant water and marshlands are acclaimed worldwide by avid hunters and fishermen.
Wallaceburg is very fortunate to have its own hospital, the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance-Sydenham Campus-Wallaceburg District Hospital that serves Wallaceburg and surround communities.
