Dresden
Dresden is a small town community of approximately 2,700 residents, located north-central Chatham-Kent.
Downtown Dresden features a selection of restaurants, quaint stores and access to the Trillium Trail Historical Walk. The trail explores the typical early development of a rural Southwestern Ontario Town. The unique history of Dresden from 1820 to 1920 with its close ties to Great Lakes Marine History and the Underground Railroad. The scenic trail through parks and woodland area features more than 50 historical sites.
The world-renowned Uncle Tom’s Cabin historical site is also location in Dresden.
Dresden is home to Chatham-Kent’s premier gaming facility, the OLG Slots at Dresden Raceway. The raceway is a ½ mile harness racing track offering live harness horse races May-September each year. The Casino area maintains 100 slots with various different games available.
The Dresden Exhibition, host variety of events throughout the year. The major event happening annually the fourth weekend in July, the Dresden Fall Fair. This event brings the community together to take part in a tractor pull, parade, livestock exhibits, homecraft exhibits, midway, entertainment for all ages and much more. On July 27, 2010 they hosted the Guinness World Record-Largest Parade of Tractors. The ‘Farmers Driving out Cancer’ breaking the record with 1231 tractors crossing the finish line and raising $104,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society.
Dresden’s summer season is also busy with the Rotary organization hosting ‘Rotary Summer Concerts’ taking place July and August.
Dresden has very rich farm land which provides a very strong vegetable produce for commercial and farm gate use. CanGro Foods processes locally grown tomatoes and Martinrea Fabro is a tier one automotive supplier
The vibrant community also features several athletic fields, a skateboard park and an arena.
