Blenheim
Chatham-Kent is often called the “Classic Car Capital of Canada”, and the town of Blenheim (population ~4,700) is the epicenter. A visit to the amazing RM Classic Car Exhibit is a must for any automobile enthusiast. On any given weekend, drivers from near and far join area owners of classic and retro rides for show-and-shines and rallies through the scenic countryside.
For outdoor buffs, Rondeau Provincial Park and C.M. Wilson Conservation Area lay a stone’s throw away and offer spectacular camping, hiking and biking. During migration seasons, hundreds of species of birds make a pit-stop in Rondeau to congregate and rest.
Families with young children enjoy access to the services and programs provided by the Chatham-Kent Children’s Safety Village and the world-class facilities at the Gable Rees Rotary Pool.
Boaters and fishers can get out on the waters of Lake Erie with just a short drive to either the Erieau Marina or Yacht Club. The area also supports several commercial fishing operations and Blenheim is home to the head office of the Ontario Commercial Fisheries’ Association.
Agriculture plays a vital role in Blenheim’s economy, which residents celebrate during Cherryfest every summer. Family farms growing cash crops and raising livestock intermingle throughout the area with large agricultural processors such as Thompsons Limited and Platinum Produce and even a winery, Smith & Wilson Estate Wines.
The manufacturing industry is also a major economic contributor and includes a diverse variety of companies including Mallory Industries, Metal Powder Products Canada, Konal Engineering & Equipment, Resistance Welding Products and Woodbridge Group.
