Downtowns are moving up!

Geoff Wright, Economic Development Officer, noted millions in investments are in the works for downtown Chatham by Toronto-area entrepreneur Victor Boutin. "A few years ago there was a 60-per-cent vacancy rate in stores in historic downtown Chatham,'' said Wright. "Today between 92 and 93-per-cent of stores are filled and that number is expected to increase.''
Wright said it's rewarding to see the huge investment in the downtowns right across Chatham-Kent. "The downtowns are the doorways to our communities,'' he said. "It's great to see them flourishing.'' "All that remains is for consumers to continue to re-discover and support local merchants in our downtowns,'' Wright said. “They generate wealth and create employment and are to be applauded.''
