Municipal Police

Chatham-Kent is a safe place to work and live and enjoys a low crime rate due to the community involvement in policing and public safety initiatives.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service officers are deployed in four Patrol Districts based out of Chatham, Wallaceburg, Ridgetown and Tilbury. Satellite offices are also located throughout the municipality. The 240 staff members provide community patrol, investigative support, canine operations, marine patrol, traffic enforcement, records management and community services. Chatham-Kent is a 9-1-1- emergency community.

Crime prevention programs such as Crime Stoppers, Neighbourhood Watch, Marine Watch, Crime Alert and numerous safety programs are in place.

O.P.P.

The officers of the Ontario Provincial Police detachment are responsible for specific policing services within the Municipality of Chatham-Kent and are reinforced by officers and staff of support units for administration, training, technical identification, R.I.D.E., communications, and criminal investigation. The detachment is responsible for traffic enforcement on Highway 401 and Highway 40 as well as marine policing of the surrounding waterways of Lake Erie, Lake St. Clair and St. Clair River and Rondeau and Wheatley Provincial Parks.

Fire Services

The Chatham-Kent Fire Department is a composite fire service model, with over 400 firefighters operating from 10 fire stations across the municipality. Full-time and volunteer firefighters are trained and equipped to deal with emergencies of all types, including incidents requiring technical rescue, tiered medical responses and special operations.

The Chatham-Kent Fire Department consists of four divisions; Operations, Fire Prevention/Public Education Division, Training/Professional Development Division and the Administrative Division.

Land Ambulance Services

The Land Ambulance Service in Chatham-Kent is provided by Sun Parlour Emergency Medical Services – Chatham-Kent Division.

The Ambulance Service main office is in the Chatham EMS Headquarters. This recently completed EMS base has room for up to 10 ambulances with modern crew quarters and training facilities. There are also five outlying EMS bases situated in Thamesville, Blenheim, Wallaceburg, Tilbury and Ridgetown.

The ambulance fleet consists of 13 ambulances, 1 first response unit and 1 administration vehicle. EMS bases are staffed by highly qualified Primary Care Paramedics.
